Prof. Hans Rosling is co-founder of Gapminder, a venture for development of software that converts international statistics into moving, interactive and enjoyable graphics (www.gapminder.org). The aim is to promote a fact based world view through increased use and understanding of freely accessible public statistics. The colorful animations clearly show how countries have improved or deteriorated health and economics and many in the audience may find their former world view to be some decades too old. His award-winning lectures on world development, using Gapminder graphics, have been labeled 'humorous, yet deadly serious'.
Prof. Hans Rosling research concerns links between poverty and health in Africa, Asia and Latin America and he has been adviser to WHO and UNICE. He started courses on Global Health to teach on economic, social and environmental determinants of global development. Together with son and daughter-in-law he-founded Gapminder, a venture for development of software that converts international statistics into moving, interactive and enjoyable graphics (www.gapminder.org). He co-founded Medecines sans Frontiers Sweden and is a member of the International Counsel of the Swedish Academy of Science. When working as a doctor in Mozambique he discovered a formerly unknown paralytic disease caused by malnutrition and intoxication. He named the disease konzo. « Back to event |
