Categories for 2009 Leaders Awards

Closing date for nominations to the 2009 Leaders Awards is September 25

This year's event will recognise and reward Leaders in Technology and Business Innovation under seven categories:

Company Awards:

High Potential Start-up Award -To recognise a leading company in early stage business planning and execution

High Growth Company Award -To recognise a leading established company driving forward in international markets

Sustained Excellence Award - To recognise an established technology company with a record of consistent growth and profitability

Specialist Awards:

R&D Project Award -To recognise a leading innovative research project within industry or third level college

IT Department Award -To recognise an IT department that can clearly demonstrate business benefit from IT project implementations

Green Technology Award - To recognise a company that has implemented or developed solutions to achieve reductions in energy use

Excellence in Education Award - To recognise the efforts of an individual, group or school to engage with technology for education purposes

General criteria:

•    Companies should be operating from within Munster
•    Both indigenous and subsidiary companies are welcome to submit nomination

 

Category Criteria:

 High Potential Start-up Award

This award recognises a leading early stage or emerging IT related company in effective execution on business plans.

The criteria for nominations for the 'it@cork High Potential Start-Up Award' are as follows:

a.    Less than three years in operation

b.    Clear and effective business plan

c.    Demonstration of effective execution on business plan

d.    Currently exporting or demonstrating high potential to export in the near future

e.    Strong Leadership & Management vision

 High Growth Company Award

This award recognises a leading established exporting IT related company that demonstrates strong growth and strong business potential.

The criteria for nominations for the 'it@cork High Growth Company Award' are as follows:

a.    Greater than three years in operation

b.    Established and growing in an export market

c.    Strong Business potential

d.    Demonstrates Execution abilities

e.    Strong Leadership & Management vision

 Sustained Excellence Award

This award recognises a company that has been in technology sector for 7+ years with a strong record of growth, innovation, profitability or employment.

The criteria for nominations for the 'it@cork Sustained Excellence Award' are as follows:

a.    Technology company 7 years +

b.    Consistent record of growth or profitability or employment or innovation

c.    Strong contributor to the economy

d.    Serving Irish or export markets or both

e.    Management team can demonstrate that it has adapted consistently over the lifetime of the company to maintain a sustained contribution to the region

 R&D Project Award

This award recognises a leading R&D project for innovative application of technology and subsequent potential for business benefit.

The criteria for nominations for the 'it@cork R&D Project Award' are as follows:

a.    Nominations welcome for leading IT related R&D Project carried out by business or third level organisation

 IT Department Award

This award recognises the leader of an IT Department which has delivered most value to its business during the previous 12 months.  The award aims to highlight projects where value has been delivered through the introduction of new technology or the innovative use of existing technology.

The criteria for nominations for the 'it@cork IT Department Award' are as follows:

a.    Nominations welcome for IT departments who can clearly demonstrate business benefit from IT project implementations

 Green Technology Award

This award recognises a company that has reduced energy use through technology and will be awarded to a company that has implemented or developed solutions to achieve some of the following:

    Energy use of Office IT equipment – PC’s, printers, etc. (e.g. managing standby power)

    Energy use of Enterprise IT equipment – Hardware - Servers, UPS, hubs and routers – e.g. procurement policy.

    Energy use of Enterprise IT equipment – Software – e.g. virtualisation, standardisation, data de-duplication, etc.

    Effective IT room cooling – innovative approaches to cooling – hot or cold aisle air channelling.

    Efficient cooling – e.g. control strategies or free cooling.

    Control of energy using equipment – using IT to intelligently control energy requirements.

    Modelling and assessment of energy use – use of IT systems to help understand and manage complex energy usage profiles – e.g. building the ability to match variable supply characteristics.

    Energy use avoidance – Use of an ICT strategy that reduces an organisation’s energy use – e.g. reduced travel via teleconferencing.

 Excellence in Education Award

This award recognises the efforts of an individual, group or school to engage with technology for education purposes.  The award is open to the primary and second level sectors.The award will go to an initiative which demonstrates one of the following:

a.    Student engagement in the understanding and usage of IT for educational purposes
b.    Teacher engagement in the advancement and exploitation of their own IT-related teaching skills
c.    School engagement in the development and maintenance of comprehensive IT facilities for pupils and teachers alike
 
The significance of the impact of the work in the local region and the extent to which the initiative is based on voluntary effort will be taken into consideration.
