Enterprise Ireland's seminar for Cork software companies on September 8 discussed how they can position themselves to grasp the global business opportunities that are arising out of The New Software Economy.Speakers included Chris Hofmann, Director of Special Projects of Mozilla Foundation who presented the innovation models required for companies looking to capitalize on the opportunities in the new partner focused software value chain.
Companies in attendance included:Chaos Management; CommerceWare; CompuCal and SoftTrace.
Research undertaken by Enterprise Ireland and industry partners in the past year, identified a New global Software Economy, driven by the growth of the Internet and changes in end-user demands. The New Software Economy is characterised by demand for greater flexibility, global delivery and cost-effective solution.
The analysis also revealed that the unique profile of Ireland's software sector with its strong base of small flexible companies is particularly suited to these emerging trends.
On foot of this research, Enterprise Ireland published a new strategy for the Irish software industry to double its size over the next three years. The strategy aims to drive the sector's revenues to over €2.5bn by 2013.
