Project management excellence – Essential for economic recovery
Ireland Chapter of PMI announces annual seminar lineup
In the present climate of economic challenge, there is an even greater need to ensure that investment initiatives maximise value to their stakeholders. The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the pre-eminent organisation globally speaking for professional project managers. The PMI Ireland chapter has recognised the vital importance of the profession maximising value in projects in planning its annual seminar, which takes place at Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Co Dublin on 4 March. The theme for the seminar is 'Creative Approaches in Challenging Times' and the Chapter has now announced the annual seminar line-up.All organisations from engineering to technology, public sector and not-for-profit, engage in projects that are as diverse as developing new products, major infrastructure development or complex research and development initiatives. Future success lies in improving their ability to deliver projects reliably and consistently.
A world-class lineup
The seminar features a lively mixture of presentations using world class speakers and parallel workshop sessions. It covers the key topics of leadership value, motivational strategies, communication principles and the need for trust in organizations, referencing examples of high-profile projects from across the globe.
The keynote speaker is David Taylor, author of the world best-selling business books 'The Naked Leader' and formerly European Business Speaker of the year. His address on 'The Common Sense Approach to Leadership' cuts through the jargon to give insight into how to face leadership challenges.
Steve Elliott will draw on over 30 years of experience of major projects to address the question 'Projects and Programmes too often fail - Why?' In the afternoon, there are three strands for attendees to choose between, on the topics of trust, making better, faster project decisions and using social learning and storytelling in projects.
'These topics are highly relevant in post-boom Ireland,' said Kieran Boyce, President of the Ireland Chapter of PMI. 'You have to ask whether questions of leadership, trust and value could have helped to make better use of the economic boom, and even to manage the crash that followed. There is no doubt, though, that excellent project management is now more relevant than ever. As we try to rebuild our economy, we have no alternative but to focus on outstanding leadership and tight management of all project spending to get the maximum value for scarce resources.'
