it@cork secures funding under the Regional Enterprise Development Fund
Cork, 11th December 2017: Funding has been approved for it@corks application under the Regional Enterprise Development Fund to co-fund a cluster manager. The fund which is an open national competitive call, is provided by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation, through Enterprise Ireland and is a key action to support the Regional Action Plan for Jobs and the Action Plan for Rural Development.
Welcoming the announcement, Chairperson of it@cork Caroline O’ Driscoll commented “this is a unique opportunity for the ICT cluster in the region which continues to grow at a rapid pace. The appointment of a dedicated ICT cluster manager will align us with best in class international clusters, give us the bandwidth to increase our strategic activities, broaden the reach of the technology sector and help support and drive employment in the region. It is our view that in order to derive the most value from the existing ICT industry in the South Western Region that there ought to be a single person of contact to foster this cluster. It is envisaged that the role will be to facilitate coordination, collaboration, and knowledge sharing amongst the already established companies and work with local, national and international stakeholders on matters of relevance to the sector. This will allow us to identify key opportunities for business growth, development and internationalisation through a concerted effort with companies in the cluster. This should lead to an enhanced skills pipeline, internationalisation of domestic companies and position the region very strongly for continued growth. We are delighted that the Department, through Enterprise Ireland has chosen to support this important project”.
Caroline concluded by thanking the board and members it@cork “I want to thank the board of it@cork, past and present for the years of hard work and dedication and the 200 members who continue to support us. We are looking forward to continuing our work with our member companies to build out the technology cluster in the region”
