Tim Horgan

As the Head of the Department of Computer Science at Cork Institute of Technology (CIT), Tim has a keen interest in actively engaging with industry. The department, which is one of the largest Computer Science departments in Ireland, offers a range of modern undergraduate programmes and a host of opportunities at master’s degree and at PhD level. The department’s industry engaged programmes match the needs of our economy and have an excellent reputation for producing the most employable computer science graduates. These highly skilled graduates are in huge demand and contribute significantly to the development of the region. As technology plays a greater role in our society the growth in the demand for these graduates continues year after year.

Previously Tim managed the Department of Online Delivery at CIT having previously managed CIT’s Cloud Computing Centre of Excellence. With over 35 years experience in education Tim has always been interested in exploring new ways of learning. Prior to joining CIT he worked at the University of Limerick where he designed, developed and managed a master’s degree programme which was delivered using an online and blended learning model. In 1999 Tim joined CIT’s Department of Computing as a lecturer and went on to develop several new programmes including the world’s first suite of Cloud Computing programmes. A keen believer in lifelong learning he has developed several master’s degree programmes focused on upskilling staff in the workplace.
