James is Software Engineering Manager at Zazzle, a global online marketplace that powers the creation of almost anything! He is currently building a new engineering team in their European headquarters in Cork. He is a founding member of CorkDev, a monthly meetup that covers an array of technical topics and puts the spotlight on tech people and companies in Cork. James is also an AWS Community Builder, with expertise in serverless technologies and data analytics.
Professor Geraldine Boylan
Geraldine Boylan is Professor of Neonatal Physiology, Department of Paediatrics & Child Health, University College Cork, Ireland and Director of the Irish Centre for Maternal & Child Health Research – INFANT
Geraldine is a clinical physiologist who specialises in the neurophysiology of the infant brain. At INFANT she leads the newborn brain research group, a multidisciplinary team focused on brain monitoring for infants in the neonatal intensive care unit, particularly for seizure detection and the early diagnosis of brain injury. The team used AI to develop an automated system for newborn seizure detection and completed a clinical trial evaluating the clinical efficacy of this technology in eight centres across Europe.
She is co-founder of CergenX, a UCC spinout company that is using AI to develop innovative solutions for the detection of infant brain injury.
Paddy has twenty years of experience in Recruitment. Joining Berkley in 2003 as a Senior Technology Recruiter he progressed through various roles in the company becoming Director in 2015 with responsibility for managing teams across the core specialisms in Technology, Life Science and Engineering.
In 2017 he led a successful buy out of the company and has been focussed since then in developing new service offerings and building out an International Delivery hub in Ireland, serving clients across Ireland, UK and Europe.
In October 2020 he moved into the position of CEO with responsibility for driving Group strategy in growing the International reach further across key markets of UK, Germany and Benelux.
Paddy is passionate about Recruitment and focusses on strategic account management and solution development whilst supporting the wider team by facilitating an environment built on high performance, collaboration, initiative and continuous development.
Professor Barry O’Sullivan
Professor O’Sullivan FAAAI, FEurAI, FIAE, FICS, MRIA, is an award-winning academic with more than 25 years experience working in artificial intelligence. He is co-founder and Chief AI Officer at Stimul.ai. He is a full professor at the School of Computer Science & IT at University College Cork and a member of its Governing Body. He is founding Director of both the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at UCC and Director of the SFI Centre for Research Training in AI. In July 2018 Barry was appointed Vice Chair of the European Commission High-Level Expert Group on AI. He is a Fellow and a past President of the European AI Association.
He is also a Fellow and a member of the Executive Council of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. He chairs the Advisory Board of the GRACE project at Europol, and advises the Leuven.ai institute at KULeuven (Belgium) and the Computational Sustainability Network, a network of universities in the USA. In 2019 Professor O’Sullivan was appointed by Ireland’s Minister for Health to the Health Research Consent Declaration Committee. In 2020 he was appointed Chair of the Oversight Board of Health Data Research UK (North), led by the University of Liverpool. In 2021 he was, again, appointed by the Minister for Health as Chair of the National Research Ethics Committee for Medical Devices. Barry is a highly-regarded international Track II diplomat. Over the last two decades he has been involved in winning over €300m in R&D funding.
Kieran has over 20 years’ experience working as a Data Scientist, delivering data powered solutions to large global and domestic clients. Kieran has a mathematics and statistics academic background and excels in building and growing data, analytics, and artificial intelligence capability, including specialist teams and technology solutions. Kieran is a Thought Leader in the field of analytics and has travelled the world, working with clients across all industries and speaking on the conference circuit. Kieran’s is passionate about Innovation with Data and keeps a constant watch on the Emerging Tech Ecosystem to identify new capability that can help solve business and societal problems.
