We are delighted to announce our next it@cork Evolve event will take place on Tuesday 6th July at 9am. This is a new series that was recently launched by it@cork and it will showcase innovative tech companies in the South West of Ireland to the membership of it@cork and beyond. This virtual event will feature 3 young tech companies presenting their sales pitch to a panel of representative decision-makers from established and potential buyer companies. This event will have pitches from:

And our buyer panel will have representatives from Fexco, Cork County Council and VMware who will listen to the 3 pitches, give feedback on their sales presentations and answer any questions that might come from the audience.

Darren Sexton is the CEO of GuardYoo, a Cybersecurity Forensics engine delivering online Compromise Assessment.  Prior to GuardYoo, Darren worked with Trend Micro, a global cybersecurity vendor with EMEA offices in Cork. Before joining Trend Micro, Darren worked at McAfee another global cybersecurity vendor where he oversaw EMEA SMB Inside Sales team. With over 25yrs in the technology industry, Darren has also worked for companies such as The Horizon Group, Sage Ireland and PFH Technology.

Nicholas Gorman, Founder of SafeScore

Nicholas holds a BSc(Eng) and has 12 years’ professional experience across some of the largest aviation clients in the world, including digital transformation, capital projects and change management. His most recent achievements include co-founding a successful Management Consulting firm in Dubai. The firm focused on aviation, primarily through airport strategic advisory and operational enhancements. This included delivering a $12million programme of digital infrastructure for the world’s busiest international airport.

Nicholas also worked at Hamad International Airport, in Doha and prior to that he led a team of 30 staff in 3 countries on the Doha Metro. He has worked in Ireland, Angola, India, South Africa and many other countries on some of the most challenging and diverse projects in the world. He has founded 3 companies and lives in Tralee, Co. Kerry with his family.

Breffni Allen, co-founder and CTO of Alcass Health Solutions

Breffni Allen is the co-founder and CTO. Winner of a number of industry awards including the Exxcel Female Entrepreneurship Award for Habitus Posture, the company has received support from Enterprise Ireland, European Space Agency, Cork County Council and the Local Enterprise Office.

Breffni has a joint honours degree in Computers and Economics from University College Cork (UCC) and a Post Grad in International Sales from the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). Having worked in Software development for Apple for a number of years, Breffni focused her skills on the regulated sector leading teams delivering Quality Compliance and Project Management expertise. She is PMP certified from the Project Management Institute (PMI). She has successfully scaled two consulting companies in the regulated sector. Breffni is a certified PMP with accreditation from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

With strong entrepreneurial skills reflected in her co-founding a number of start-ups, Breffni was also the Managing Director of Cregg Consulting, and CEO of Smart Compliance both delivering innovative solutions through Strategic Consulting to Multinational Pharmaceutical and Medical Device clients.

Ed Harnett- is a Chartered Physiotherapist who worked and managed his own private practice for 22 years. Ed’s main interests within physiotherapy are ergonomics and sports medicine. Ed’s well-established clinic in Cork is a leader in these sectors and the clinic has managed workplace injuries for many large corporations in Cork over the years. Ed was head of the medical team for the Kerry Senior Football team from 2013 – 2017. He holds a masters degree in sports and exercise medicine from UCC (2016) and his primary honours degree in Physiotherapy from the University of Manchester (1997).

With 22 years’ experience in the field of ergonomics and workplace injury and illness, Ed wanted to deliver his expertise to millions via digital technology. Ed saw a huge gap with an unmet need in the illness epidemic engulfing seated employees through prolonged sitting and poor posture. Habitus Posture was borne out of this vision and is now a company tasked to solve a major and growing societal problem. Having developed, managed and scaled his own business, Ed is ready to go global!


Karl Aherne– Karl joined Fexco in January 2018 as Director of Strategic Business Development. In his role, Karl is a member of the executive management team and leads Fexco’s Drive division that includes innovation and product management, software engineering and IT infrastructure, product delivery and operations in addition to group marketing. Combining both enterprise and start-up experience, Karl has built and brought to market award winning B2C and B2B financial services and mobile products, was MD of Wayra, a start-up accelerator where he invested in and accelerated over 30 start-ups and founded a business which he sold to Deloitte. Karl is board advisor to several scaling start-ups including and as well as two start-up accelerators and

Jacqueline Hunt- Jacqueline is Head of ICT at Cork County Council, the second largest Local Authority in the Republic of Ireland. She has over twenty-five years’ experience working in ICT.

Darren Burnett – Director Global Strategic Partner Support at VMware.  Darren has over 20 years working in Technical Support.  He started his career in the Irish Defence Forces as a Radio Technician and then moved into supporting their IT systems. He later moved to IT support in the financial sector and then transitioned to VMware. With VMware, he has held many roles, from being a Technical Support Engineer through to his current role where he is responsible for the support provided to some of their larger strategic customers across many products.
